I always love this time of year, even though it does spell the end of long, warm sunny days. The arrival of the new season means it’s time to update your look for AW18, so I thought I’d recap you with the hottest makeup trends from the catwalk. While some of the looks that emerge from fashion weeks are all about showmanship, and won’t really translate to the everyday, there are always some really wearable looks on offer, too. The skin-first looks were more dominant than ever, with plenty of designers choosing to embrace the models’ natural beauty and put minimal makeup at the forefront. Meanwhile on the colour scene, pink is having a moment when it comes to eye makeup, with lids and lashes both getting in on the action

Nude Skin

For the Burberry show, I wanted to create a look that was all about staying true to the natural beauty of the models; and letting their raw beauty shine through. It went beyond my signature nude makeup looks to create a ‘pure beauty’ look that will be the new go-to for no-makeup-makeup next season. It’s not about creating matte or glowing skin, but the tone and texture that’s right for you. Everything I worked with was layerable to make it look as real and raw as possible; so you can peel it back or take it up a notch depending on how you feel. Find out exactly how I created the look here. Barely-there nude skin colour was also the order of the day at Christopher Kane, Michael Kors and Valentino.

Think Pink

For those who aren’t afraid to embrace some colour when it comes to makeup, trade in those safe burnt oranges and nude hues for AW18 and think pink. At Dries Van Noten neon pinks and reds were used on lashes and hair linings (a look only for the brave). At Lanvin, Peter Philips created bold eyeliner lines above and below the lash lines to match the colour of the shades each model wore. Meanwhile, models at Marni had a barely-there flush of girly pink eyeshadow on their upper lids; definitely a look that would work in real life. Prada’s statement pink or blue eyes were adorned with crystals for a look that has party season written all over it… And if all this is not enough, some of the models at Moschino had their entire faces painted in bold hues, including pink. Fancy it?

Matte Lips

The bold matte red lips at Rochas by Lynsey Alexander are a classic look for autumn/winter. For help creating the perfect red lip, check out my video, here. Matte lips were also the order of the day for Pat McGrath at Dolce & Gabbana, with scarlet, berry and fuchsia lips on show.

Glamour Puss

Autumn/winter is a good time to embrace all-out-glamour with party season on the horizon and sequins back on the agenda. At Dolce & Gabbana and Alberta Ferretti, Guido Palau created flawless feline liner flicks, while midnight blue smoky eyes made waves at Carolina Herrera. For a more rock ‘n’ roll take on the trend, check out Diane Kendal’s look for Marc Jacobs, where smoky kohl eyes and jewelled shadows were the order of the day.

Glitter Bomb

Glitter makeup trends have been on the up season after season, so this AW18 beauty trend will come as no surprise! Queen of glitter Val Garland leads the charge, with full face glitter makeup at Giambattista Valli. Her full face glitter masks might not make it down to the high street, but I love seeing statement looks like this on the catwalk. Val also created a glitter look at Preen By Thornton Bregazzi with a smattering of shine across models’ forehead.
