5 Anti-Ageing Superfoods

As you know, my beauty regime goes well above and beyond what goes onto my skin, and I’m all about beauty from the inside out. Take your Eat Beautiful philosophy to the next level and add these anti-ageing superfoods into your diet and notice the difference in your complexion…

If you’ve read my book Eat Beautiful you’ll know that I place huge importance on food as part of any beauty regime. What we eat directly impacts our skin, from simple things like not drinking enough water leading to a dehydrated complexion, to too much sugar damaging the collagen in our skin. There is no point spending out on expensive anti-ageing face creams and serums if you’re not eating right! To help you take a step in the right direction, I thought I’d suggest some anti-ageing superfood heroes to add into your diet (and also highlight a few foods to avoid)…

Anti-Ageing Foods to Add to Your Diet

Red Pepper

When it comes to anti-ageing skincare, antioxidants and Vitamin C are buzzwords to know. It’s no different when it comes to anti-ageing foods – antioxidant foods are what you need to look for. Red peppers have a high concentration of Vitamin C which is great for boosting collagen production to help skin looking and feeling younger for longer.

Blueberries

Another antioxidant superhero is the blueberry, which is rich in vitamins A and C. They not only help repair damage to skin cells, but also help protect skin from ageing damage due to the sun, stress and pollution. Try my Blueberry Milkshake recipe.

Spinach

Spinach is not only rich in iron and magnesium, it has a host of antioxidant-rich vitamins (A, C, E and K) to help boost collagen production to help skin firm and young-looking. Throw a handful in your smoothie for the easiest way to get your fix.

Salmon

Salmon is high in omega-3 fatty acids, which help to calm inflammation linked to premature ageing. Healthy fats such as those found in salmon also help your skin maintain its natural oil barrier that protects your complexion.

Avocado

As well as being an excellent source of anti-inflammatory fatty acids to promote healthier skin, avocados also contain Vitamin A to help shed dead skin cells and give a healthier, glowing complexion. Try my breakfast wraps recipe.

FOODS TO AVOID: As well as including plenty of these anti-ageing superfoods in your diet, you should also avoid foods and drinks that can damage your skin. These include excessive alcohol, which causes dehydration, sugar, which can cause sagging skin because of the damage to collagen and elastin, fried foods, processed foods and too much salt.
