While some people are using lockdown to take a well-deserved break or enjoy the simpler things in life, others are launching new businesses. And I really love this idea from two of my favourite fashion photographer friends, which will make gifting cash so much easier (and infinitely more stylish). The brilliant Inez van Lamsweerde and husband Vinoodh Matadin have launched Double Dutch, with the help of Kidfund CEO Laura Bailyn, former Rent the Runway executive Piyusha Eluri and payment platform Adyen. The cash gifting app is set to make the process of gifting money much more fashionable, thanks to the addition of cards featuring exclusive artwork by celebrated artists such as Richard Prince, Maurizio Cattelan and Urs Fischer.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Inez said: “There are so many times I’ve received a scented candle,” says fashion photographer Inez van Lamsweerde, “and secretly thought to myself—well, cash would have been better.”

The service will work something like a personal GoFundMe, with totals gifted adding up in the recipient’s account to be spent on essentials or something special if the occasion calls for it. And every transfer will be fronted by a specially chosen art card with exclusive art designs. Double Dutch will split the revenue generated with contributing artists 50/50, which can be redirected to charity, if the artist chooses. In addition, they are donating $10 per sign-up for the first 1,000 users to World Central Kitchen to support their Covid-19 efforts.
