Fashion month is finally drawing to a close, with New York, London, Paris and Milan settling down after another season of statement spring styles and bold beauty looks. As usual, when it comes to makeup there was a great mix of gorgeous, wearable trends and bold, beautiful artistry. The great thing about makeup is that, unlike the clothes, you don’t need to wait until next season to tap into the trend, you can start perfecting your favourites right now. The top five SS20 beauty trends are all about getting playful and experimental with your look, whether it’s with graphic liner, pastel colour or adding some spring/summer sparkle into your look.

SS20 Beauty Trends: Top 5

Graphic Lashes

Sometimes what you see on the catwalk is a show version of what would work in the real world, and Ralph & Russo’s graphic lash lines are a great example. The ‘club-punk dolly’ look was based on a subverted mod eye with faux lashes created with MAC Pro Longwear Fluidline in Blacktrack. This won’t be one for a trip to the supermarket, but 60s lower lashes a la Twiggy will be big come SS20.

Metallics

Often associated with autumn/winter and party season, metallics have been all over the SS20 catwalks, with simple silver feline eyeliner flicks at Balmain, a touch of sparkle at Off-White and even statement gold lips at Dries Van Noten.

Matte Lips

Spring can feel like it’s all about glowing skin and glossy lips, but matte lips are big in SS20 beauty, with gorgeous candy pink matte lips spotted at Aigner, velvet reds at Moschino and pale pastel hues at Self Portrait.

Corals & Pastels

In case you were worrying that all of SS20’s beauty trends were party season metallics, matte textures and statement lashes, there was a healthy dose of spring/summer-friendly pretty pastel colours on display, too. From pink, coral and lilac lips at Self Portrait and pink and orange shadow blush combinations at Sies Marjan and Jason Wu to pastel shadows at Mark Fast and pastel glitter at House of Holland.

New Nude Skin

I know, I know, I’m always talking about nude makeup! But as it’s my speciality I’m always keeping an eye on what skin textures and looks are popular on the catwalk. For SS20, with colourful makeup, statement graphic eyes, glitter and more all on show, skin wasn’t the main feature in a lot of the show looks. But for the pared-back styles on show, new, ultra-nude skin was the order of the day. Think no-makeup, just fresh, clean skin, worn either glowing or matte. Peter Pilotto, and Jonathan Cohen both added a splash of colour on the eye while leaving skin nude and glowing.
