I love this time of year when the first few warm and sunny days start to break up the grey, cold UK weather, and wherever I am in the world there are trees full of blossom and a brighter, more optimistic mood. The blue skies and pink blossoms aren’t the only spring colours to look out for this season though, as bright makeup was one of the biggest trends to come out of the SS19 shows. Ready to update your look for the new season? Here’s my guide to tapping into the trend…

Colour for SS19: Bright Makeup Trend

Popping pinks, burnt oranges and sky blues can be scary colours to think about when you’re choosing your makeup colour palette, but don’t be afraid to get experimental with your look this season. Start with a subtle sweep of colour on the lids or a matte popping pink lip for spring and you’ll be ready for a bold bright makeup look come festival season!

Take your inspiration from the pink eyebrows and graphic colour liner seen at Guy Laroche. Pare the look back to make it wearable and simply add smudges at the outer corner of the eye, or a slick of coloured kohl liner.

Come festival season you might even want to take inspiration from Pat McGrath’s bold and beautiful bright makeup look at Anna Sui, which saw models with pink and orange shadow extended upwards from the eyes onto the forehead and downwards onto the cheeks.

If statement eyeshadow is just not your thing, you can still tap into the colour trend with a bold lip. Take inspiration from the Chanel SS19 catwalk and opt for a hot pink or warm red matte lip colour. Set the lip in place by applying a translucent powder through a tissue; this will avoid smudges.
