Best Foundations: For Oily Skin

One of the most important things to remember when you’re creating any makeup look is to pick products that work with your skin, not against it. Finding products that work well with oily or combination skin types can be tricky, especially for long-wear or matte finishes. I’m here to help…

If you’ve got oily or combination skin, finding a foundation to suit can be really hard. My favourite makeup looks are all about enhancing your natural beauty, so you should always look to choose a foundation that touches up your skin without masking it. If you have oily skin, the chances are you’ll be after a long-wear colour product with mattifying qualities, but I’ve included a couple of lighter options, too. Don’t forget to fully prep skin first, and don’t be tempted to skip moisturising just because you have oily skin; if you strip the complexion of natural oils you may send your pores into overdrive, leading to excess sebum production and more shin than ever. Here are my picks of the best foundations for oily skin…

The Best Foundations for Oily Skin

Bobbi Brown Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation
A lot of long-wear foundations are really heavy, but this Bobbi Brown foundation gives oily skin a natural-looking matte coverage that still lets skin breathe.

Laura Mercier Silk Crème – Oil Free Photo Edition Foundation
Highly pigmented to mask imperfections and touch up dark circles, this oil-free foundation creates a medium to full matte coverage that will help to even out skin tones.

Burberry Cashmere
As you’d expect from the title, this foundation gives skin a soft, creamy finish that looks as creamy as Burberry’s signature cashmere. I like this foundation for photo-finish flawless skin – touch up with a loose powder for a long-lasting matte look that is red-carpet ready.

MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation
This oil-control formula is really good if you’ve got an event or need your makeup to stay in place under pressure. It gives a natural-looking matte finish and has SPF15, too.

Cover FX Pressed Mineral Foundation
Cover FX do a really good range of foundations for oily and problem skin. If you’re a fan of pressed powder foundations, give their mineral foundation compact a go; it’s great for touching up on the go, making it a festival-season essential.
