When it comes to creating a flawless makeup finish, I understand the importance of achieving a smooth eye area. The eyes are often the focal point of your makeup look, and having a smooth canvas can make a world of difference. Skincare is just as important as makeup, and taking care of the delicate skin around your eyes is essential for achieving a smooth and youthful appearance. Here, I share my top tips on how to smooth the eye area, along with five product recommendations that may help you achieve the desired results.

Top Tips For Smoothing The Eye Area

Tip 1: Hydrate and Moisturise

Keeping the skin around your eyes well-hydrated is crucial for maintaining a smooth and plump appearance to your complexion. Look for moisturisers that contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides, which help to lock in moisture and improve skin elasticity.

Tip 2: Use an Eye Cream

Adding a good eye cream to your skincare routine is essential for relaxing and moisturising the eye area, preventing puffiness, and leaving you with smooth, wrinkle-free skin. The skin around the eyes is delicate and prone to showing signs of ageing, so it’s important to give it extra care.

Tip 3: Gentle Cleansing

When removing makeup or cleansing the skin around your eyes, it’s important to be gentle. The skin under and around your eyes can be thin and delicate, and excessive pressure may contribute to fine lines and wrinkles. Use a gentle cleanser and avoid using water that is too hot or too cold, as they can dry out your skin and make it appear dull.

Tip 4: Wear Sunglasses

While it’s important to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF30 to protect your skin, if you apply it too close to your eyes you may cause irritation. Therefore, to fully protect the delicate skin around your eyes, I recommend wearing sunglasses as frequently as possible. There’s a reason many celebrities are always wearing sunglasses outside, and it isn’t just to protect their privacy!

Tip 5: Massage

Massaging the skin around your eyes can help improve circulation and reduce puffiness. Using a very light pressure and one or two fingers, gently massage the area in circular motions, just around the outside corners of your eyes (as the cream will travel inwards). Do this when applying your eye cream to ensure the product is fully absorbed. Read my guide to facial massage here.
