As we head into the autumn/winter 2023 season, one trend that is set to dominate is the oversized blazer. This versatile piece can be dressed up or down, making it a must-have, whatever your working week looks like. The 80s are a strong influence this year, which is when the oversized blazer (shoulder-pads an all) really started to be a womenswear staple. The relaxed shape mean this is the perfect combination of comfort and style, and the perfect layering piece as the weather turns colder. Double-breasted looks were big in the 80s and made an appearance on many A/W ‘23 catwalks, while waist-clinching styles are also popular for a more feminine take on the trend.

Several designers showcased oversized blazers on their autumn/winter 2023 runways. Dries Van Noten debuted an oversized, wide-lapelled blazer in a soft jade green. Blazers were given the structured treatment at Givenchy’s show, with a waist-cinching silhouette that exhibits a top 2023 trend, and Proenza Schouler showcased an oversized blazer with a relaxed, boxy silhouette that is perfect for layering.
