Reviving the Disco with Nile Rodgers

I was lucky enough to be introduced to Nile Rodgers through Inez + Vinoodh. I remember his music growing up as it was all of the disco hits I loved to dance to, like Le Freak in 1978 and Everybody Dance 1977, these tunes are dance floor classics!

He wrote Madonna’s “Like a Virgin”, Diana Ross’s “I’m Coming Out”, most recently Pharrell and Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”. Now he’s using recordings from back in the day which were never released, “I’ll Be There” is one of these songs he’s pulled from the archive for the younger audience who missed out on such major tunes.

I was so privileged to be a part of the making of this music video shot in NYC’s Pacha nightclub by photographers and directors Inez + Vinoodh starring Karlie Kloss, and choreographed by Stephen Galloway. It began with Karlie getting dressed up to her arriving at the dance club with Chic on stage. Brandon Maxwell who dresses the likes of Lady Gaga, took the band back into the 70’s with a modern twist. Shay Ashual and myself transformed the backing singers Falomi and Kimberly into a Shaka Khan meets Diana Ross vibe. These ladies have been with Chic for numerous years and bring glam to the band.

The most major thing that happened during the video shoot is it turned into a party for V magazine with a full hour set played by the incredible band! With all their bustling tunes I danced my ass off!
