Modern Glamour: Julien Macdonald SS19

LFW is always an exciting time in the city, not only does it mark the start of a new season, it’s a time when London is alive with creativity. This season I went backstage at Julien Macdonald to create a look to accompany his stunning SS19 collection…

I always love working with Julien Macdonald, not only are his designs always exciting and glamorous, he has such a fabulous energy. This year I was backstage at his SS19 show for Max Factor, to create a makeup look to complement his new line. I wanted to give the models have an expensive, structured and statuesque feel for the show. The finished look had an elevated, modern sexy edge to it, to mirror the gorgeous, glamorous designs in the collection this season.

The girls are all undeniably still quintessentially Julien MacDonald women this season, but they have a fresh colour trend update for SS19. For the beauty look, I used Max Factor products to create a gorgeous glowing base with an alluring, pulled-out smoky eye look. I gave the face a sculpted contour to enhance the structure of the face, and finished with a matte nude lip.

Skin was contoured using the Max Factor Miracle Contouring Palette to add structure, and the Glow Duo to highlight and add a luxury glowing feel to the skin.

There are two ways to wear the intense, smoky eye look this season. Both looks start with lots of mascara and black eyeliner.

  • Brunette models were given a flash of peacock blue across the eyelid – a great way to freshen and modernise a sexy smoky eye. I’m predicting this will be a new trend for next season.
  • Blondes and redheads were given a pop of sumptuous gold shadow instead to brighten and enhance their smoky eye. This is a look you can adapt this year for party season.

To Finish the look, I used a liquid matte lip to add the illusion of fullness to the mouth and dabbed a touch of the Velvet Matte Nude lipstick in the centre of the lips as a finishing touch, to soften and add volume.
