I’ve never been a big fan of face wipes, it always horrifies me when people say that their only cleansing solution is to use a face wipe before bed! Of course, these single use wipes have their benefits, they are easy to use on the move, but not only are we fast becoming aware of the environmental drawbacks of wet wipes, they’re not great for your skin, either. Making up 93% of the material found in sewer blockages, face wipes are one of the least sustainable items in your beauty bag. In addition, even with the absolute best face wipes it’s hard to completely remove all traces of makeup and thoroughly cleanse your skin, so with the environmental considerations thrown in, it’s time to look for an alternative! Here, I round up the best alternatives to wet wipes, and the best eco-friendly face wipes on the market.

Don’t forget: You can use a face wipe (preferably one of the following eco-options) to take off the majority of your makeup, but you will always need to cleanse after…

Best Eco-Friendly Face Wipes

Makeup Eraser

If you’re hooked on using a wipe to remove your daily makeup, the makeup eraser is a great alternative. This microfibre cloth is free from chemicals and has a ‘short-haired’ side to remove makeup and dirt and a longer grain to exfoliate skin on the other. You can machine wash it once a week to keep it clean.

Yes to Cucumbers Facial Wipes

If you’re looking for an easy on-the-go cleansing solution and not ready to give up on face wipes just yet, make the switch to Yes to Cucumber wipes, which are made from compostable Forest Stewardship Council fabrics with no oils, parabens or petroleum. They’re one of the eco-friendliest face wipes on the market for single-use cleansing.

CannyMum Bamboo Dry Wipes

These bio-degradeable bamboo wipes are larger than traditional wet wipes and can be used alongside your favourite cleansing water, cream or gel for a thorough cleanse. They can also be used around the home to mop up spills and mess as an eco-friendly wet wipe alternative.

Lush 7 to 3 Cleansing Wipe

Lush’s 7 to 3 Cleansing Wipe is a reusable, biodegradable cleanser and makeup remover, made with a carrageenan and finely ground cannellini bean base plus fresh dove orchid infusion and ylang ylang.

Jackson Reece Kinder by Nature Wipes

These UK-made eco-friendly wet wipes are made from 99% renewable plant extracts and are completely bio-degradable. They are fragrance-free and suitable for sensitive skin. But don’t think that makes them a complete cleansing solution! Read my 3-step cleansing regime to learn how to completely clean your complexion.
