The A/W’16 runway was full of wearable inspiration for the season ahead, whether you prefer a nude look, a bold red lip or you fancy adding some glitter into the mix – there was something for everyone.
Red lips were all over the catwalk for A/W ’16; there were neon orange-reds at Joseph, deep brick red tones at Victoria Beckham and classic, matte reds at Prada. Pick whichever shade of red you prefer, but if you want to stay true to the trend, make sure to pair your bold lip with fresh, luminous skin and barely there eyes.
Lived in Nude
No makeup-makeup was given an updated twist for the season, with nude looks taking on more of a second-day feel. Dick Page created a “morning-after” look for the girls at Michael Kors, whilst the models at Alexander Wang had a barely there grunge feel about them. For some models at Burberry, I created an effortless, lived-in nude look, smudging a hint of gold kohl onto the lids to retain a feel of opulence, with hairstylist Sam McKnight creating un-done, fallen mohawks on the girls.
Mix it Up
Instead of the prescriptive beauty looks we usually see at each show, this season saw designers incorporating a number of different beauty looks tailored for each individual girl. The models at Topshop Unique were given either a nude or a magenta lip, Pat McGrath alternated between a khaki eye and a bold red lip on the girls at Victoria Beckham, and I created three different beauty looks for Burberry – some girls sporting a nude look, others with full on glitter, and some with an in-between look. Mix it up yourself and adapt your favourite runway looks to suit your own personal style.
Bold clumpy lashes were a big trend that cropped up at a number of shows for A/W ’16. Peter Philips created dramatic, spikey lashes on the models at Dior, whilst the girls at Vivienne Westwood and Jason Wu were also sent down the runway with a statement spiked lash look. There’s no rules for how to wear statement lashes – team them with a dark lip like we saw at Dior, or fresh skin like the models at Eudon Choi, whichever takes your fancy.
Glitter is definitely a key trend for A/W ’16. There were sparkly silver eyelids at Jenny Packham, gold glittery lids at Peter Pilotto and I created two glitter looks at Burberry; ranging from dispersed flecks, to all out glitter “tears of joy” using iridescent gold and navy. There’s a fine line with glitter and it’s important to keep the application organic and random. Make sure to use a big enough grade of glitter to give a cool edge to your look when trying this trend at home.
